🎯Introduction

Problem: Dry running destroys seals and bushings in seconds, warps sleeves, and heat-soaks casings—most “mystery seal failures” trace back to poor priming, blocked suction, or missing interlocks.

What “good” looks like (hold these)

  • Prime verified: Casing flooded and vented—solid, bubble-free stream at the top vent.

  • Suction ready: Suction valve open, strainer clean, suction pressure available.

  • NPSH margin: NPSHA ≥ NPSHR + 1 m (≈3 ft) or ≥10% above NPSHR (use the stricter). Bias upward for hot/volatile fluids.

  • Minimum Flow protected: ≥ MCSF (OEM); if unknown during warm-up, hold ≥30% of BEP.

  • Start permissives active: Level OK + Suction PSLL OK + Flow proven ≤10 s after start—else auto-trip.

If OEM limits differ, defer to OEM/site standards.
