Introduction

When assembling flanged connections, how you tighten the bolts is just as critical as the torque value itself. The star (or cross) tightening pattern ensures even distribution of clamping force, which helps prevent leaks, flange distortion, and uneven bolt stress.

Rather than tightening bolts sequentially around the flange, use a crisscross pattern—start with one bolt, then move to its exact opposite, continuing until all bolts are uniformly snug. This method balances stress, allowing the gasket to seat evenly.
